KANO + ABE: A DALY CITY BIBLE STORY

at Potrero Stage

Bindlestiff alum Ignacio Zulueta’s (JOSE RIZAL ON ANGEL ISLAND, 57 VARIETIES) new play, KANO + ABE: a daly city bible story takes an unflinching look at the human toll of America’s chaotic immigration attitudes and policies through the story of a fil-am soldier on the run who enters the shadow world of his undocumented brother. Abe, the good son, has returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Kano, the prodigal, is conniving his way toward the undocumented American Dream. KANO + ABE is a story of sibling rivalry, undocumented immigration, and some good old-fashioned murder. Directed by Colin Johnson and featuring Carlos Aguirre (aka MC INFINITE, OEDIPUS EL REY), Melvign Badiola (MOMMY QUEEREST, CHASING MEHSERLE), Jasmine Osborne (THE JUNGLE BOOK, film: HOW TO BE A MAN), and Jed Parsario (RIZAL, JOSE RIZAL ON ANGEL ISLAND). Produced by PlayGround, Jim Kleinmann, Artistic Director.

In 2003, the queer Pin@ys of Kreatibo performed their first production, “Halo-Halo,” to sold-out shows at Bindlestiff. Then they performed “Dalagas & Tomboys: A Family Affair” in 2005, winning Curve Magazine’s annual Lesbian Theatre Award. “Born out of the need to take our stories from the margins and into the spotlight,” Kreatibo is a queer Pin@y artist group that was/is “dedicated to the preservation and creation of our collective memory, and uses artistic forums as a means of cultural activism.” On hiatus for twelve years, members of Kreatibo now reassemble to reflect on themes of community, love, diaspora, and home. Using music, movement, words, and images, a Kreatibo group seasoned by age and time reunites to honor the past, celebrate the present, and envision new dreams for the future.
