Did
you know? Tagalog
is the mostly commonly spoken
foreign language in California
after Spanish. Celebrate
the richness, beauty, humor, and
- of course - drama inherent
in the language.
And don't
worry if you can't speak
Tagalog. With creative use
of live English surtitles,
you won't miss a thing.
Join
us in the heart of the SOMA
Pilipinas - San
Francisco's newest Cultural
District - for Bindlestiff
Studio’s production of TAGALOG
2017, a collection
of one-act plays written
and performed in the national
language of the Philippines,
selected from the prestigious
Virgin Labfest of the Cultural
Center of the Philippines. The
annual festival celebrates the
best unproduced, experimental
works from emerging Filipino
playwrights, and Bindlestiff
Studio is proud to pair their
work on this side of the Pacific
with talented local Bay Area
artists.

WE
GOT THE
GRANTS!
We'd
like to thank the California
Arts Council for
supporting our production
of Conrad Panganiban's
WELGA. Set in SOMA
Pilipinas, the play
connects past and present
labor struggles within the
Filipino-American
community to create an
intimate portrait of a
family in crisis. WELGA
opens on October 5th and
runs through October 21st.
Thanks also to the
Mayor's Office of
Housing and Community
Development and the SOMA
Stabilization Fund for
providing additional
support.
We'd
also like to thank Grants
for the Arts and the San
Francisco Arts Commission
for their support as well.
SFAC
has awarded grants to
Bindlestiff that will help
fund two projects: TAGALOG
2017 and our upcoming
Restorative Theater Arts
for Seniors program, which
aims to improve health
outcomes for low-income
seniors by engaging them
mentally and physically
through various theater
exercises.
And
thanks to Grants for the
Arts for their continued
support of our general
operations.
