     BINDLEBLAST ALERT

the latest news from Bindlestiff Studio

an epicenter of Filipino American Performing Arts

Dawn Mabalon is in the Heart

This past weekend, we lost a beloved member of our community, Professor Dawn Bohulano Mabalon. Her work in academia and grassroots organizing inspired and impacted countless people.

We here at Bindlestiff also remember her as one of the OG Stiffies. Her lone stand-up comedy performance at Bindlestiff with Gayle Romasanta is the stuff of legend. And over the years, we were blessed to have Dawn fill these walls with her infectious laughter, fierce intellect, brutal honesty, delicious (and rigorously researched) food, unabashed feminism, biting wit, and undying love for Jesse, her family, her community, her life's work, her Giants and Warriors, and her hometown - Stockton, CA.

And in her, we saw the scholar, the author, the artist, the activist, the humanitarian, the warrior, the chef, the shero we all aspire to be.

Dear Dawn, if all theaters have ghosts, we welcome your spirit here, now and forever.

Rest in Power!

Stories High is an incubator program open to the public, aimed to nurture, cultivate and showcase emerging and returning artists. Beginning in the late 90s, Stories High is Bindlestiff Studio’s longest-running, yearly education program and new works performance. Through the summer, students participant in one or more workshops, choosing from acting, directing, and writing. These workshops culminate in a production which many aspiring artists have used as an entry point to performing arts.
