LET’S CELEBRATE 25 YEARS! DONATE TO BINDLESTIFF TODAY!

To our Bindlestiff Family,

This year Bindlestiff Studio celebrates 25 years of bold, innovative, and original new works! We are so incredibly thrilled and proud of the work that has come through the space and the emerging and veteran Pilipino and Filipino American artists who have called this little black box on Sixth Street their home.

2014 was another banner year for Bindlestiff. We saw sold out performances that included Bindlestiff homegrown productions of Love Edition and Stories High XIV, brought to you by our unsung heroes of volunteer artists. It was also an honor to co-present, with the Veterans Equity Center and Bayanihan Community Center, the U.S.premiere of The Guerrillas of Powell Street by award winning playwright Rody Vera, based on Benjamin Pimentel’s novel Mga Gerilya sa Powell Street. We are proud to continue the story of the ongoing fight for equity for our Filipino World War II veterans.

I, Michael Dorado, write to you today to also let you know that I will be stepping down from the Board. I have a family medical emergency that requires my immediate attention for the coming months. Although I will no longer be on the Board, I remain always and truly a Bindlestiff Resident Artist and look forward to being in the audience with you. I am also very excited to introduce to you the new Board Chair, Gemma Mondala. Gemma has been a board member for the past one and a half years. She brings to Bindlestiff a wealth of experience in law, non-profit leadership and organizing special events. I know full well the energy and commitment Gemma has for the theater and its artists, and she has my unequivocal support.

We're very excited about what's coming to Bindlestiff's stage in 2015! Among the highlights -- opening in April is Jon Robin Baitz’s adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, directed by Alan Quismorio. In May, Bindlestiff’s own Christina Ying will have her world premiere of There’s the Moon and Then There’s You, directed by Lorna Velasco. And Bindlestiff's longest running show, Stories High, will have its 15th installment in 2015!

As you know, we are a 100% volunteer run organization and look to you for support to keep the water running, lights on and doors open. Consider giving to this scrappy organization, the only permanent space in the country devoted to the Pilipino and Filipino American performing arts. Continue the tradition that is Bindlestiff. Here’s to another 25 years!

Warmest regards and Happy Holidays,

Michael Dorado Gemma Mondala
