COURSE DESCRIPTION: the Acting and Scene Study workshop will first cover the concepts of objective, obstacle, action/tactic, given circumstances, stakes and text analysis as well as through work on scenes and/or monologues from contemporary plays.
Rinabeth Apostol is an actor and teaching artist with extensive performance credits ranging from sharing the stage and video screen with Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake and Missy Elliot as a dancer, voicing characters for educational games and toys to doing improv with The Groundlings in Los Angeles. She has worked with notable Bay Area theatre companies such as Marin Theatre Company (Othello), San Jose Rep (World Premiere of The Kite Runner, Of Mice and Men), B Street Theatre (Aliens With Extraordinary Skills), San Jose Stage Company (Avenue Q), Magic Theatre (Edith Can Shoot Things and Hit Them for Virgin Play Series and Hookman for Magic @ ACT Costume Shop), Precarious Theatre/Brava!, Playwrights Foundation and StirFry Theatre (Falsettoland). Her regional credits include productions with Arizona Theatre Company, East West Players in Los Angeles (World Premiere of Imelda: The Musical) and the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at New York University (Usaping Puki: The Vagina Monologues). Some of her TV/Film work includes the new web-series Give Me Grace, Nickelodeon’s Just For Kicks, Our Chart/Showtime’s Girltrash!, New Line Cinema’s Alpha Dog, and numerous independent films and commercials. She is a 1st ACT Multicultural Arts Leadership Initiative Fellow, Emerging Artist Fellow with the Kevin Spacey Foundation and proud member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, Ferocious Lotus Theatre and the PlayGround Company in residence at Berkeley Rep. Off-stage and screen, she serves on the dance faculty of San Domenico High School and as a guest teaching artist throughout California working with kids and adults of all ages who are interested in pursuing both hobbies and careers in the performing arts. www.rinabeth.com
